ROCKY RACOON- The Beatles

ROCKY RACOON- The Beatles

Am7 D7
Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota
G7
There lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon

And one day his woman ran off with another guy
C C/B
Hit young Rocky in the Rocky didn't like that
Am7
He said "I'm gonna get that boy"
G7
So one day he walked into town
C C/B
Booked himself a room in the local saloon

Am7 D7
Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Rocky had come equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy
Now she and her man who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoe down
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said "Danny boy this is a showdown"
But Daniel was hot- he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner
Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said "Rocky you met your match"
And Rocky said, "Doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better, I'll be better doc as soon as I am able"
Now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky's revival

There are many ways to feed someone and to be fed. We are all hungry for different things at different times.
We hunger for love, sleep, success, a vacation, and of course, food. If you are reading this, then it is possible, that like me, you hunger for less.
While there are many benefits of living with less, the best is that you have the time and attention to give more."

Will Tuesday Be the Darkest Day in 456 Years?

Will Tuesday Be the Darkest Day in 456 Years?: "when was the last time that we had a total lunar eclipse occur on the same calendar date as the winter solstice? The answer, incredibly, takes us back nearly four centuries.

On Dec. 21, 1638, the full moon was in total eclipse from 1:12 to 2:47 UT. And the solstice occurred later in the day at 16:05 UT. [Amazing photos of a total lunar eclipse]"

In Search of wild Chocolate

In Search of Bolivian Dark Chocolate | OutsideOnline.com

They called it Cru Sauvage
. The impeccable Swiss packaging alluded to its aboriginal provenance, and inside were two bars wrapped in golden foil, 68 percent cacao. I'd paid $13 (plus shipping!) for these skinny little planks of chocolate, just 100 grams' worth of "Wild Vintage." That's $60 a pound. After savaging its wrapper, I placed a square of the dusky stuff on my tongue and closed my eyes. also see The Wild Thing

cool word

The Ouroboros or Uroborus[1] is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle.
The Ouroboros often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, the eternal return, and other things perceived as cycles that begin anew as soon as they end (compare with phoenix).

Rowing on the Rhein

My walk this moring in Mainz was along the Rhein. There I came across the Mainzer Ruder Veiner rowing club. It was about 10AM and the dock was a mass of activity. Most of the boat launches were quad recreational or touring boats. I only saw one single scull and one duble scull. Everything else were touring boats like the C-line quad we use at GMS.

The current is running 2-4 knots! is my guess. Amazing!

Below is a link to a Canada site which speaks to this type of rowing and these boats....
Touring in Ontario is now promoted through the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association or OAR Touring (pdf brochure), a new Association that has been granted membership in ROWONTARIO and Rowing Canada Aviron. OAR Touring replaces the ROWONTARIO touring committee. Each year we will offer a full slate of tours on various scenic waterways of Ontario. wooden boat show at Mystic Seaport

Barb and I spent Saturday at the 2010 Wooden Boat Show and then had an early dinner at Abbott's Lobster in Noank.

At the boat show we found some beautiful wooden rowing sculls and the Rowing Hall of Fame.

At Abbott's I found their famous Hot Lobster Sandwich.....A big pile (1/2 cup I'd guess) of lobster meat warmed with a little butter on a toasted bun with a little butter....yum, butter, yum

So this weekend I installed a KVM switch, my laptop docking station, an access port for network. The KVM switch lets my 2 computer's (work and personal) share a common monitor, keyboard and mouse. Headphones at used for OCS and office telephone.

Took it for a test drive and seems to work fine.

sculling camps run by GMS Rowing Center local report

GRANITEVILLE -- Langley Pond is no stranger to top-flight rowing. Events from the Southeast Regional Challenge Championship Regatta, to the Aiken-Augusta Masters Rowing Regatta have been held at the venue that was the practice facility for the U.S. Rowing Team prior to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Most recently, the boat launch at Langley Pond has again been used by some of the top rowers in the country. They've been in town to participate in a series of sculling camps run by GMS Rowing Center.

Mr. Central Aiken
"It's the right size for rowing," said Gúnter Beutter, co-founder and president of GMS Rowing Center, an organization based in New Milford, Conn.

this weeks sewing project - water bottle belt

I had decided that I needed to start carrying water with me and Droopy (dog) on our hikes every Saturday and Sunday. Started looking at EMS ($40) belts, Sierra Trading Post ($30) and finally decided I had the basic skills to build my own. This is the first prototype. Bottle holder is made from the center section of a 2L soda bottle, covered with material. Adjustable for different size water bottles.

Works and rides pretty well (first hike today with it). Things to make it better...

1 - hold two bottles - one for me (fruit punch additive) and one for Droopy (regular water).

2 - wider belt on hip bones. This one is padded and that is great. I really never felt it on. But with two bottles of water, wider belt at the hips would better secure the belt for the added weight.

3 - storage pouch zipper on top. This zipper is below the top. I loaded it with a Cliff bar, my cell phone and my keys which fit fine, but loading and unloading felt safer when the belt was off me.

4 - clip for keys

5 - zipper across top of belt between bottles. opening zipper reveals 2 straps for holding a coat or windbreaker.

Talar Dome Lesion: "Talar Dome Lesion

What is a Talar Dome Lesion?
Talar DomeThe ankle joint is composed of the bottom of the tibia (shin) bone and the top of the talus (ankle) bone. The top of the talus is dome-shaped and is completely covered with cartilage—a tough, rubbery tissue that enables the ankle to move smoothly. A talar dome lesion is an injury to the cartilage and underlying bone of the talus within the ankle joint. It is also called an osteochondral defect (OCD) or osteochondral lesion of the talus (OLT). “Osteo” means bone and “chondral” refers to cartilage.

Talar dome lesions are usually caused by an injury, such as an ankle sprain. If the cartilage doesn’t heal properly following the injury, it softens and begins to break off. Sometimes a broken piece of the damaged cartilage and bone will “float” in the ankle."

Arthritis Supplements: Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and More

Arthritis Supplements: Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and More: "What Are Glucosamine and Chondroitin?

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are components of normal cartilage. In the body, they are the building blocks for cartilage and appear to stimulate the body to make more cartilage.

There are conflicting studies on glucosamine and chondroitin, some demonstrating a beneficial effect on osteoarthritis pain. Others, including the NIH-sponsored multicenter Glucosamine/Chrondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT), did not show benefit for the primary outcome measure of osteoarthritis pain measured by WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMacster Universities).

However, there are no long-term studies to confirm their long-term safety and effectiveness. Many physicians may still recommend a trial of glucosamine at this point, and if there is not apparent improvement by 3 months, it would reasonable to stop glucosamine. More definitive conclusions will be made available once the full results are published in the peer-reviewed literature.

The supplements, which are available in pharmacies and health food stores without a prescription, are well tolerated and appear to be safe. However, there are no long-term studies to confirm their long-term safety and effectiveness.

It is important to check with your doctor before starting any new treatments. Your doctor can review the other medications you are taking and help you decide whether or not these arthritis supplements are right for you. In addition, always follow the instructions on the medication label. Do not take more of the supplements than is recommended."
