this weeks sewing project - water bottle belt

I had decided that I needed to start carrying water with me and Droopy (dog) on our hikes every Saturday and Sunday. Started looking at EMS ($40) belts, Sierra Trading Post ($30) and finally decided I had the basic skills to build my own. This is the first prototype. Bottle holder is made from the center section of a 2L soda bottle, covered with material. Adjustable for different size water bottles.

Works and rides pretty well (first hike today with it). Things to make it better...

1 - hold two bottles - one for me (fruit punch additive) and one for Droopy (regular water).

2 - wider belt on hip bones. This one is padded and that is great. I really never felt it on. But with two bottles of water, wider belt at the hips would better secure the belt for the added weight.

3 - storage pouch zipper on top. This zipper is below the top. I loaded it with a Cliff bar, my cell phone and my keys which fit fine, but loading and unloading felt safer when the belt was off me.

4 - clip for keys

5 - zipper across top of belt between bottles. opening zipper reveals 2 straps for holding a coat or windbreaker.

I used some Hawaiian print to line the last messenger bag I made. I got the material from Carol at work who had spent some time their a couple of years ago. Anyway, I was telling her about it and she asked about a bag for a nurse. I've never heard of such a thing, so like any body, I googled it. Of course I found one.

It's a little smaller than a messenger bag. About 12 x 14 x 6 inches. It has a wider bottom to help it stand up if set down. Full zipper closure instead of a flap. It's kind of a cross between a tote, messenger bag and a doctor's bag.

I thought the large outside open pocket would be good for their stethoscope. The zippered outside pocket has slips for pens and scissors. There's a pocket inside on the liner. a "D" ring on each end of the 2-way zipper so you can attach a shoulder strap.

Since it is for Carol, the Hawaiian print was used inside and out.

I have to convert some cotton print into Book cloth to cover a hedgehog. I'm trying this recipe first.......the simple one......

Homemade Paste

* 1/2 cup flour
* Cold water
* Saucepan
* Food coloring (optional)

Directions

1. Add cold water to flour until mixture is as thick as cream.
2. Simmer and stir in saucepan for 5 minutes.
3. Add a few drops of food coloring, if desired.
4. This wet, messy paste takes a while to dry.

gig book

the black book is the gig book. I got the idea to make a book for a friend who plays in a band. He is also a sound guy and I know he will take notes at different venues. It is a little thinner than a HH at 3 1/4 inches. It is a 3 signature book made of cover stock @ 67 lbs so it is not to thick to throw in your back pocket. The card stock is yellow to help (I hope) in low light situations like bars or clubs. Check out the fender picks on the end of the page mark. The pictures are from some tourists cards I picked up in Nashville.
